The new fitness center addition at the SwedishAmerican Riverfront YMCA consists of 7,800 square feet of new fitness space spread over two floors. The upper floor has state-of-the-art cardio equipment, and the ground level is dedicated to strength training. The ground level also has a large artificial turf area for performance training.
The west exterior wall of the addition has large glass openings to maximize views to the Rock River. By orienting the window wall slightly to the northwest and providing both vertical and horizontal projections adjacent to the windows, the amount of solar heat gain in the evening hours is minimized, making the space more comfortable for building users and saving the client money on energy bills.
